Lost and Found.

This morning we had a session on change and transition. It wasn’t until we named all the different things we’re experiencing did I begin to really realize how stressful this is becoming on us and our colleagues. Some of the ‘different’ things include washing and brushing our teeth with bottled water (and being wary of anything consumed that was in contact with tap water), the language barrier, the traffic, the power cuts, the different take to time (in the West we are ‘time oriented’ and here ‘event oriented’), the lack of internet and connectivity…just to name a few.

This explains why there was so much consternation between the two of us when Judah’s Batman-Thermos-straw-bottle was lost. The next day his sippy cup went missing. And just like that we were down to one bottle for Judah. Not a problem right? Wrong. No Walmarts, no Superstores…nope. There’s a certain kind of powerlessness when you don’t even know how to begin to solve your problem. My heart goes out to the many immigrants that arrive in Canada every day beginning a new life.

And so I thank God, I really do, when this afternoon I happened to be lying on the floor of our room and spotted the Batman bottle! One of us even shed a tear, I won’t say who.
